We are really happy to announce that we're taking part in Mystery Box Rally in 2021 (POSTPONED FROM 2020)!! Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $4.5 million in the last 9 years. This rally will have us driving a car that is 25 years or older along outback roads. We will do approximately 2,500kms in 5 days! We set off from Rockhampton & return back to Rockhampton 5 days later, each day in between is a mystery, we have no idea where we will be headed until the morning of! In order for us to participate we need to raise $5,500 and every dollar raised goes to the Cancer Council! We would very much appreciate it if you could donate to the cause & help us on our journey!
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5 day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."
Tony (Bondi) and myself Belinda (Bindi) picked up our Mystery Box chariot from Bundaberg (aptly named The Bundy Wagon) before we even received our acceptance email. Now the hard work begins as you can see from the pics the car needed to be put back together before we transported it back to Brissie to begin prep for the MBR. Luckily we had 8 months to complete the car.
Its been 4 months since our last update - Wow hasn't the time flown by!!! So much has happened not just in our personal lives but to everyone. We hope you are all keeping well and safe in these challenging times.
A little update from MBR is that due to COVID-19 the MBR2020 has been postponed until October 2020 at this stage - they will re-evaluate the situation in July. Fingers crossed we can still proceed this year as we have been so looking forward to it. Alternatively they will push the rally back to August 2021. So that gives Tony a couple more months to complete the car.
Anyway Tony's been a busy beaver getting the car to the stage its at at the moment. With some help from friends and family its starting to look like it should - its finally got some paint on; we've just got the engine back after a little rebuild (Tony can't wait to fire that up). Most of the electrical work is done.
Still a bit of work to do on the tailgate, doors, guards and bonnet!! Not to mention the interior. Should have some new wheels and tyres next week too :) Stay tuned!!!!
Wow 2020 is a wrap - Thanks COVID!! We were a little quiet in the last half of the year as the MBR2020 was postponed until 2021 - so we'll hopefully hit the road 31st July this year (depends on bloody COVID).
Anyway the fundraising part of the Mystery Box Rally doesn't stop and we still have a little way to go to hit our revised required target of $5500 - but exceeding that target would be amazing as Cancer Research needs as much funds as possible. I'll be looking to do some raffles and other activities to raise some more funds so hopefully that'll interest the people who haven't yet made a donation. No amount is too small - if you can only afford a few dollars it all adds up.
The MBR Chariot was finished and regoed in September and we've put some miles on her to test her out on the open road. Road trips included weekend out to Yelarbon, weekend up to Woodgate and a run with the HKTG Qld Club to Crows Nest!!! We've got the swag camping down pat! Just need to make some modifications to the wagon to safely stow our stuff for the Road Trip and put the roof rack on for some more storage (jerry cans & spare).
Here are some pics from our road trips :)
