Our Story …

We are really happy to announce that we're taking part in Mystery Box Rally in 2021!! Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $4.5 million in the last 9 years. This rally will have us driving a car that is 25 years or older along outback roads. We will do approximately 2,500kms in 5 days! We set off from Rockhampton & return back to Rockhampton 5 days later, each day in between is a mystery, we have no idea where we will be headed until the morning of! In order for us to participate we need to raise $3,500 and every dollar raised goes to the Cancer Council! We would very much appreciate it if you could donate to the cause & help us on our journey!

Here's what I'm doing …

Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."

I wish I could donate more. I owe Bernadette a massive debt of gratitude for her selfless act of kindness rescuing my son and two of his friends after a car accident in Brisbane. What a wonderful kind person, one of God's human angels. Good luck in the rally! Erica and Angus

<p>A couple of people have politely asked, so I just want to stress that all costs to do this are paid for by me and Bernadette personally. We buy the car and ensure it is legal and safe. We pay fees to cover the cost of managing the race. We pay for all food, accommodation, petrol etc. </p><p></p><p>All your donations, 100%, go direct to Cancer Council to fund the projects they have listed. :-)</p><p></p><p>So its a win win win for all concerned. We get to have a lot of fun, and all our kind generosity gets to help a lot of people through some very tough times :-)</p><p></p><p></p>

<p>The Fantastic Ford Festiva came to the rescue of one of our donators today.</p><p></p><p>Local painter Aaron Clapton was unlucky enough to experience a gearbox breakdown in his work car. So who should he reach out to? The Fantastic Ford Festiva!</p><p></p><p>Within minutes he was traveling safely back home in the passenger seat of the 1994 Festiva. </p><p></p><p>"What a fantastic car" he remarked "Without the help of Juey Lamington's Ford Festiva I would have been up my ears in strife"</p><p></p><p>Aaron will soon be making another small donation.</p><p></p><p>Thanks Aaron</p>

<p>Thursday 4th November. Rally starts day after tomorrow. Currently resting in Rockhampton after driving up from Gympie yesterday.</p><p>Hooray we made it to Rockhampton! A massive achievement in it’s own right for a $350 1994 Ford Festiva. We now have 2 days to sort out a few minor issues:&nbsp;</p><p>Car was misfiring as we pulled into motel&nbsp;Bum hurts from sitting in the car&nbsp;Back is mildly painful from sitting in the car&nbsp;Knees, shins, ankles, foot arches and balls of the feet hurt, as per normal&nbsp;Hands feel like they have nails hammered through them as per normal&nbsp;I may have packed too much&nbsp; There was no coffee served at breakfast&nbsp; The water here has such a strange taste it spoils the coffee&nbsp;</p><p>We only did 450k yesterday. Rally days can be up to 800k! Not sure my body is going to be capable. Actually body is what it is, but my mental state putting up with the body is probably the real issue.&nbsp; Was not expecting coffee issues. Am I going to be the only one who relies on coffee&nbsp;</p><p>Apparently there's going to be a few 'japes' along the way. I'm told not to tell too many people that I have air con as I may find a kilo of glitter blowing out of it the next day. into the car.&nbsp;Unfortunately Steve has already seen my soda stream maker (I do like fizzy water) and the large amount of luggage I have packed. I caught him taking photos of it all.&nbsp; He doesn't even know this is just mine and Jamie has yet to add hers.</p><p>I'll need to look under the bonnet today.&nbsp;Fortunately I bought my coffee grinder, cafetiere a sealed bag of emergency beans. I have plenty to get me through the rally if need be,&nbsp; but will I get time to heat water with my 12v kettle?&nbsp;Steve says it will attract attention. I need to hide my luggage somehow. Especially the coffee equipment and soda stream maker. It all makes me think I made the correct not to bring the fully automated coffee machine.</p>

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Mystery Box Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Mystery Box Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
