Tim and Mark are happy to announce that we're taking part in Mystery Box Rally in 2021!!
Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for the Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $4.5 million in the last 9 years. This rally will have us driving a car that is 25 years or older along outback roads. We will do approximately 2,500kms in 5 days! We set off from Rockhampton & return back to Rockhampton 5 days later, each day in between is a mystery, we have no idea where we will be headed until the morning of! In order for us to participate we need to raise $3,500 and every dollar raised goes to the Cancer Council! We would very much appreciate it if you could donate to the cause & help us on our journey!
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5 day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."
Went to a recent lecture on heart disease and the steps taken to reduce its incidence - huge improvements made with huge funding, which is great.
Then someone in the audience pointed out that the incidence of brain tumours in children remains unchanged after 30 years and perhaps its time more funding was directed into this area - hence the pledge for the rally and a chance to raise funds for cancer research.
The Covid 19 situation is certainly a worry.
Being self isolated is also inconvenient.
But things were put into perspective today when some people told us, yes the situation is not good, but when compared to having our child diagnosed with a brain tumour we know can handle it.
Amid the current turmoil, please keep safe and keep donating for the benefit of young cancer victims.
Well. Lets not be too downhearted about the Covid induced delay.
The bigger picture remains in place.
We will continue to raise money to help towards cancer research.
BTW - We're keeping the rally car primed ready to go.
Keep safe and keep donating please.
We're gearing up for next years rally - now that this year's attempt has been officially scuttled by Covid.
Not that we're doing it tough compared to some.
Kids are still contracting cancer and for them the mountain is still there to climb - Covid or no Covid.
So please - keep donating, and rest assured your hard earned $ are going straight to cancer council for the good of all.
We're crossing our fingers and toes that come July, state borders are awash with happy travellers and rally goers.
Our fundraising has been in a Covid induced layover for a while now, but that is set to change.
All the while the cause continues unabated, the need to research and progress the battle against cancer remains.
So, please donate what you can and help us reach our fundraising goal before July!
